CHRISTMAS TREE: RED
CEDAR
The Red Cedar tree is actually not a cedar at all; it is in
fact a juniper. It grows little berries and starys green all year.
The range is quite large in the US as shown on this map:

It's characteristics are well suited for Christmas tree
decorations provided that you have the patience to brave the dense growth:
• the color is a deep green
• the foliage is super dense, creating a superior
backdrop to Christmas tree decorations, but limiting the ornaments mostly to
the outer edges.
• does not have needles per se; the tree has
small leaves
• branch strength and foliage thickness is excellent for holding
larger ornaments
• excellent conical shape
• strong cedar-like fragranceHere are 2 pictures of the
Eastern Red Cedar tree: the first on a Red Cedar farm, and the second of the same
tree in nature.

The natural maximum height range of the Eastern Red Cedar is 30-50
feet, and is better thought of as a very large Juniper bush. The
Christmas tree has a top age range of 70-80 years. Here are two photos
of the leaves and the branch.
