CHRISTMAS TREE: SCOTCH
PINE
The Scotch Pine tree takes its name from the pine family.
We were unable to locate a source claiming origin for the name, but Scots Pine
is frequently the name used in the US. This tree is prolific through
Europe, Asia and North America. It was also one of the first Christmas
trees to be plantation or farm grown.

It's characteristics are ideally suited for Christmas tree
decorations:
• the color is a dark green with a deep blue tint
• the foliage is dense, creating a superior
backdrop to Christmas tree decorations
• good needle retention even if the tree becomes dry, needles sharp
• branch strength is excellent for holding
larger ornaments
• superior conical shape
• highly popular, strong pine fragranceHere are 2 pictures of the
Scotch Pine tree: the first on a Scotch pine farm, and the second of the same
tree in nature.

The natural maximum height range of the Scots or Scotch Pine 80-100
feet, with a top age range of 700+ years in Sweden, though more usually 150-200
years. Here is a close-up of the needles.
