CHRISTMAS TREE: WHITE FIR
The White Fir name refers to the fir family to which it
belongs, and includes a descriptor of the needles. Against most other
firs, the White Fir appears a silvery grey, and therefore surprisingly white in
the forest. The White Fir tree grows in the mountainous regions of
California.

It's characteristics are ideally suited to Christmas tree
decorating:
• the color is a silvery, grey-white
• the foliage is dense when grown on a farm
• needle retention is particularly good
• mild, aromatic fragrance
Here are 2 pictures of the White Fir. The photo on the left is a
farm raised White Fir tree. The photo on the right is a
naturally occurring White Fir in a California forest.

The natural maximum height range of the White Fir tree is 190-200 feet, with
an age limit of approximately 300 years, though trees as old as 500 years are
known. White fur needles are shown below in the picture on the left.
For comparison, the picture on the left is also white fir, and to the right are
Douglas fir needles.
